Hello and welcome to the second iteration of the Silver League sprite contest.
Just to recap-
Premise;
- This contest is a test of your spriting abilities, in which you will compete against fellow spriters
- This contest is not one event, but rather numerous events over many weeks. You do not have to participate every week, but scores are cumulative.
- Each round will be one week, and the challenge will be based on a subject or category of spriting (for example, fusions, trainers, mugshots, or revamps).
- Submissions will be accepted up until the date of a round's end, after which they will all be judged, and additional points will be rewarded based on letter grade.
Rules;
- Follow all preexisting forum rules
- You may only enter one sprite per round (unless otherwise stated). You may not change/edit your entry once it is submitted, so do not post until ready.
- I don't think I need to say this, but please make sure your sprite is saved as a png.
- Keep your sprite at b/w dimensions (no larger than 96x96) unless otherwise stated. Upscales or abnormally large sprites will be disqualified.
- Please leave the sprites on a white background- transparent backgrounds turn to black when copied into paint for examination.
- Please no joke/troll entries. They will be ignored. If you continue to post troll entries, disciplinary actions will be taken.
- Do NOT steal another persons work and submit it as your own. You will be caught, and permanently banned from the contest, and there will be repercussions outside of the contest.
- Please don't pester the judge(s) (unless I deserve it- odds are I will).
- If making a sprite involving a 6th gen Pokemon, please do not use someone else's sprites, even if they have given permission to use them. This contest is based on your skill, not someone else's.

Well.. that was long.. it's now 5:45 in the morning for me. I will update the scoreboard when I wake up, but I will announce the next round now;
Next round; Splice (aka fuse) two pokemon together. So, it's a 50/50 fusion round.
End date; 5/21
Okay.. this sprite becomes a lot more problematic when I zoom in and realize which way the trainer's supposed to be looking. It wouldn't be soo bad, but the chin line cuts right up into the face- well it's either that or a really low side-mouth. Other than that, the hoodie has areas of double-black on the sleeves and hood, and the colored outlines for the hoodie and the pants and are too light. The shading on the chest is also rather blocky, and overall a bit flat. I like the idea though, but all above, and the hands as well, need some work.Warlock wrote:

This sprite is overly bright- the hair is neon, the one outline color is barely distinguishable, and there isn't enough of a difference between the shades on the red jacket. This looks sorta nice, but it has flaws. The green ruffly thing on the back of the dress has a lot of double pixelization with the dark green outline. There's also one spot where you completely missed recoloring a pink pixel to green. I can tell you changed the arm, which doesn't look /too/ bad, but the hand is rather small. There's a lot of things wrong here. The hat is pillowshaded, has lots of double pixelization, and is basically at the wrong angle. What did we tell you about transparent backgrounds? Eh.. I'll let it slide this one time, because at least your sprite didn't contain any true black so it wasn't messed up by it.. but that should tell you something- this sprite has no black outline at all, even on the pants which are a shade of black. Now, the other issue I have with this sprite is that the direction the lightsource is coming from is all confused. On the shoulder and arm it looks backlit, but on the rest of the upper body it looks to be more normal. Also, the shoes really need a darker outline color, and the skin and hair needs some lighter outline (it's usually good to use two shades of outline. The rest of the sprite isn't too bad, but the near arm could use a more well defined elbow.zeroscale1 wrote:

This sprite is just a mess. The sword and hair (I think?) have no outline, and what does is either way dark, or way too light. The anatomy of the arm is iffy, and I cannot even make out a hand that might be holding the sword. I hate to be mean, but it's not good, though at least you tried.stormneko wrote:

This is another weird case of shading not matching up. The hat would suggest the light source is from the right, but the coat would suggest the left. The coat also has almost a solid black outline.. with weird bits of blue-green, when it should really make use of dark purple in the outline. For wearing a vest, this trainer is way skinny- he could easily be a few pixels wider- and to go with that, he also has a skinny neck. The arm is also more of a curve than a natural bend, and the knee on the bent leg is too high up. A rather stylish sprite, though with a few minor flaws. First thin I notice is that the smile is a bit too large, and touches the outline of the cheek next to the hair- this can be fixed by removing one pixel of it. There's no clear distinction between the shirt and the pants. The shading on this whole sprite also needs to be redone, though mostly the hair- lots of the gray shades are also too close together to be effective. It looks more like a scarf, but if so the ends are a bit wide- well, mainly the one is. ..If it's neither and she's supposed to be holding something rather than adjusting her scarf.. then I'm clueless. Hm, a bit larger for normal trainers, but still legal nonetheless. Regardless, this sprite is very pillowshaded on the pants and the vest. The shades are too close together, there's no black on the pants, but there is on the white sleeves.. and what is that hat? whatever it is it should not be detailed in black outline. this trainer is also just too lanky for pokemon proportions.Gantorn wrote:

This is a rather interesting one, and certainly has a flair to it. However there's a few things that could use some correcting. First and foremost- why is the outline of the back arm in a color lighter than it? You even have dark brown in your sprite already that would have done the job, or better yet, use some black- I see you also did the same thing with the trailing purple fabric. Secondly, the hair in the ponytail is oddly straight up to a point where it curves rather sharply. This might be a case of anime hair physics, but the curve could be gentler.
