Custom Gym Leader Sprites + Work in progress fan game

Hey guys, wanted to show you some sprites I have made for a Pokemon fan game my friend and I are making called Pokemon Dark Jade!


The game is set in the Mar-Ehy region which resembles the real world Louisiana.

Here's the Gym Leaders...


I'm going to hopefully keep you guys updated on the sprite art I'm making for the game. I also hope to show you the Fakemon my friend is designing soon.

It's an interesting mix, not to sound harsh but they're all ok and grass is the one I don't spot any real flaws with, first I'd suggest going through and adding noses to each of the sprites that don't already have them. Second of all I would suggest redoing any arms that have spaghetti syndrome length and I would suggest adding shading where it looks flat. Finally It would be better if you re-did the water gym leaders body, it seem misshapen and as if different body parts were used without subtlety and the head is disconnected from the body. I honestly hope you didn't take that harshly it is just an honest opinion and constructive criticism of how the sprites could be improved. Regardless good job on the grass gym leader

Also the ground gym leader's dress is a bad colour to contrast against her skin

Oh, no need to feel bad. She's female and is actually going to be the protagonists sister.

How to improve?
-The Normal and Fire leaders need a nose to make it less Voldemord-y.
-And I dont really see a spaggeti arm syndrome. Maybe on the Ground type gym leader but the arms are ment to be smaller so not really. And to improve the Ground leader maybe get the color of the dress a bit different. It matches a bit to well with the skin color.
-And as Istas already sed redo the body of the water gym leader and on one foot theres a bit double pixelation. On the other foot on one pixel on the outline you used a different color maybe use that to help the double pixelation?
-And with the dark type gym leader shoes? You dont see them well if they are there. Maybe put outlines if they are? Or is it ment to have like no feet? idk the rest looks really great though.

But overall
The rest looks really nice and I like the design off all of them. The grass one is the best in my opninion.

with the spaghetti arms, I was referring to how some came around in stringy kind of ways and didnt really have elbows to look like proper arms, we added too much jelly this time

The sprites are really nice and I especially like the character designs ! I have a few things to add to everyone else's suggestions. On the normal trainer, once the blue pants end on her legs, is that supposed to be skin or different coloured pants? If it's skin, I'd recommend reducing the width a bit. The poison one's head seems a bit too small and the connection to the shoulders seems off. And finally, the dark one's arm throwing the pokeball seems to curl...? Anyways these sprites are really good, can't wait to see more of your work !

Yup! It's called the Mar-Ehy region and it's based of the state of Louisiana. (Swamp)
