Help a Guy Get Started? Empty Help a Guy Get Started?

Hey! Not a whole lot to say here. I already do digital art and just recently decided to try my hand at pixel art and, frankly, regardless of the ridiculous amount of time I've spent staring at my screen for the past couple of days, I'm having a pretty good time. I've made a couple trainer sprites, one of which was spliced and recolored from other sprites and one I made from scratch, which I'd much prefer to get good at. Any advice or critique would be greatly appreciated and I hope to see you guys around!

I also made this (attempt at a)mugshot for the first sprite, also from scratch. Yes, I realize it's garbage, but if you have any advice on how to improve it or some pointers on the "logic" of pixel art, that'd be great.

These are amazing! The one on the left seems to be flawless and the only thing I recognize from existing sprites are N's legs. The other one's pose is a bit stiff and the area where the shirt meets the pants seems a bit off but it's awesome, especially considering it's a scratch-build! As for the mugshot, what are you throwing in the trash?!  Shocked  The only suggestion I can make is to make the hair a bit more consistent on either side of the head.

Look forward to seeing more of your work! Smile

These are looking really good! The splice looks really good, but the lack of the right arm is a little distracting. (I understand it is supposed to be behind his body, but it just looks a little off.) I can't say much about the scratch, as I kinda really suck at scratch, so if you want more help with that, ask BetaX64. The mugshot is really good, but the transition from sprite to mugshot is a little off. The one strand of hair coming out of the hat on the mugshot is really straight and really small compared to the one on the sprite. The body on the mugshot is a little weird, but I presume it is because he is looking backwards. The shading on all the sprites looks pretty good besides a few little spots here and there, but it's nothing too major. I say you've got some pretty solid sprites here, and can definitely become an amazing spriter in the future. Good luck, and sprite on! tongue

I tried to make another from scratch; this time for a friend of mine. He's a big fan of Mega Charizard, so I may try and make a custom of it later. But, for now, I gotta go to bed. It's nearly 3 am and I have to be up at 6. Let me know what you guys think and feel free to leave advice, critique, etc.

That was intentional. My friend's 6'8" and has a pretty big build. But do you think they're too thick?

Looking at the sprite of you're friend. I miss some shading for his hair.
I know its legs intentional becuse he's like 1.90? idk how to calc the height to cm but as somebody of my familie is about that height it stil doesnt look that their legs are thicker. But overall I do like it.

I'll keep an eye on the leg thickness next time. Or, better yet, learn to detail baggy pants better. That was the intention, but it doesn't look like it came off too well. Thanks for the feedback, guys!

Lol. I'm a newcomer and, frankly, I have a bad track record of getting to involved in other stuff to pay attention to forums. Gonna try and stay active, though.

Made a few small changes to the last sprite. Gonna work on a signature banner before I have to go to work.

Changed my mind about the signature and started to work on my entry for this week's contest instead. I'm doing Celty from Durarara! I have to go for now, but I'll be back on after work.
