¤) Wasteland: Stats and Combat
THE BASICS:
For battles, there are 3 main things that matter; Health Points, Attack, and Defence. These each have modifiers, like items or skills, that determine their numbers, but they will have a base number for each character.
Health Points: HP is based on a character's physical build, age, and natural resistances, up to a maximum of 30 HP, and a minimum of 10 HP. For example, a child or teenager would have less points than an adult, and a thin person would have less health than a larger person. These cannot gain any modifications from items, but these can be regenerated via spells, potions, resting, or other natural means.
Attack: Now, the attack stat doesn't only determine how much damage you do. The attack stat helps determine if you can even damage the person you are attacking. The attack stat is determined by training, age (fighting experience), and physical build. So, an untrained fighter would have less attack than an experienced knight, and an older warrior would have more attack than a younger one. This stat is affected by weapons, and the way those weapons are wielded.
Defence: The defence stat does a similar thing to the attack stat. It determines how much damage you take, and if your armor or natural resistances allow you to not take any damage. The defence stat is mainly determined by natural resistances, physical build, and current armor. So, a person with "Stoneflesh" would have a higher defence from direct attacks, and an undead would have a higher defence from all normal weapons. This does not affect how much damage is taken from a magic attack.
MORE ADVANCED STATS:
So the battles have more depth, and the characters actually seem different from each other, there are extra stats that can sway a battle's outcome. These stats are Initiative, Perception, Stealth, Wisdom, and Charisma. These can be affected via armor and weapons.
Initiative: The Initiative stat is a VERY important stat, as it controls when you get to attack. The higher the Initiative, the sooner you can attack. This stat is determined by the character's speed, observant-ness, weapons, and armor. For example, the faster you are, the higher your Initiative. However, if you are wearing heavy armor, or carrying a Broadsword, your Initiative is lower.
Perception: Perception determines how well you can detect someone, or notice a trap, or things of that nature. This is determined by your patience, your observant-ness, general sight, and your armor (helmet). For example, if you are wearing a full face helmet, you have lower Perception, but if you are really patient, then you have a higher Perception.
Stealth: Stealth is how well you can hide, and remain unseen. This also allows you to get the jump on opponents and go first, if they don't roll or have higher Perception than your Stealth. This is affected by your patience, natural ability, weight, and armor. So, if you are wearing heavy armor, you have lower Stealth, but if you are a light character, then you have higher Stealth.
Wisdom: Wisdom is how intelligent you are, and how together in the head you are. It determines your magic effectiveness, as well as your ability to teach others. This is affected by general intelligence, as well as natural ability and willingness to learn and cooperate. So, a person who never wants to learn alor try to learn will have a lower intelligence. This is a stat that can change as the story progresses, but it won't be a significant amount, and if it's obvious you are trying to make your character smart, and that goes against previous examples, you WILL be penalized in your stats.
Charisma: Charisma is how well your character is liked by others, as well as their general honesty and hospitality. This stat determines your ability to lower prices when buying/trading items, your ability to convince people, and it can even help you avoid fights all together. So, a person who lies a lot or is generally unfriendly towards others has a lower Charisma. This stat, just like Wisdom, can change based on the story, and if it is obvious that you are trying to increase this stat while going against your character's personality, you WILL be penalized in your stats.
NOTE: You WILL NOT choose your character's stats. These will be determined by a team selected by Yria, as to try and keep personal character bias out.
