Is changing the genie trios form a new thing added in gen 6 or was both their forms in gen 5 and which form was the original when you catch it in gen 5

The form change was a generation 5 feature. However, I believe it was a feature exclusive to a 3DS eshop game called Dream Radar. You could catch the therian forms (along with other Pokemon) and transfer them to Pokemon Black/White 2. Hope this helps!

Doesn't help that the item that changes their forms in gen 5 could only be obtained if you already had a Therian Forme Landorus.. meaning you needed the dream radar game or a friend.
