Hello everyone, I'm pretty new here so I figured it would be a good idea to post an introduction thread.  I go by Fedora1947 online because I've been using that username for basically everything since I was 15, but you can call me Matthew/Matt.  I've been playing pokemon since gen 1, my first game was red on the gameboy color back when I was in first grade.  My favorite generation was generation 2, I specifically preferred gold version though I owned all the portable mainstream games from gen1-3, because I remember really liking how I could transfer my gen 1 pokemon to gen 2 and being able to go through Kanto in the post game.  I also played a lot during gen 3 and have a lot of fond memories from that gen as well, gen 3 would have been my favorite if there were a way to transfer my pokemon from gen 2 to it.  I played gen 4 for a bit, I remember owning diamond and heart gold but unlike the first 3 gens I didn't bother buying all the games this time around.  I skipped gen 5 and during gen 6 I played and beat the elite 4 in Y and kind of put the game down afterwards.  It wasn't til about a month or two ago that I picked up OR that I really got back into pokemon again.

Anyway as far as non pokemon related stuff is concerned, I'm 22, live in NJ, engaged to my high school sweetheart (we have been dating since Junior year of high school, it will be 6 years in April), right now I'm a full time student and a part time worker.  I am studying special education grades k-8 with a specialization in Mathematics.  I've worked with children my entire adult life and have always enjoyed it, and Math has always been my best subject in school.  I've been working with children with disabilities since 2008 at the Camp Fatima of New Jersey.  I have also worked for the YMCA as a child care professional for the after school program at my local elementary schools (there are 4 in my district alone and like 6 more if you include the nearby neighboring district) for almost 6 years, I started working with them when I was a sophomore in high school and left when I graduated back in 2011, I returned almost 3 years ago back in 2013 and this will probably be my last year with them since I will be student teaching and graduating next year.  I also have worked at a daycare center during the summer for the past 2 years, where I take pride in being almost every kid's favorite teacher on the merits that there are only 2 male teachers in the entire center and apparently I'm the funnier one.

I initially went to school for Biology/Pre-Med but remember feeling very disenfranchised after my first year so I took the next year off to go on a spiritual journey of self discovery, during that year I was hired to work at a group home for men with Autism.  The job was very difficult, dangerous at times because in addition to Autism some of my clients had behavioral disorders that made them very aggressive (I've had my fair share of knives and other sharp objects thrown at me for a life time), but at the same time it was one of the most rewarding things I have ever done.  The most rewarding part of the job was teaching my clients how to do basic life skills, for example tying shoes.  Being able to tie our shoes is a skill most of us learn very early on and take for granted.  But for someone who in this case is 62 years old and for all their life had required someone else to do it, to be able to tie their own shoes is not only a skill, it is a form of independence and freedom.  I worked for months with him, I wanted to give up so many times because it seemed like an exercise in futility due to the lack of progress he appeared to make, but I didn't give up on him and pressed on.  I remember one day, I came into work and he ran up to me and started jumping and clapping excitedly (none of the clients in the group home were verbal so they either communicated with sign language or gestures).  He then untied his shoes which had already been tied, and proceeded to tie them all by himself.  They were some of the worst shoe tying knots I had ever seen, but I was amazed because at the same time they were the most beautiful knots because he tied them himself, for the first time in his life he was able to this with out any help.  The knots were far from perfect but they didn't have to be, they were his knots and he owned them and never needed help tying his shoes again afterward (he eventually got better at tying them too with practice), and being part of the process that got him to that stage was one of the most empowering and rewarding things I have ever done.  After that I made the decision to go back to school, I combined my love of working with children, working with individuals with disabilities and teaching and chose a Special Education major which is how I've gotten to where I am today.

Anyway, to wrap this up, I love being able to help people out and since I have been getting back into Pokemon again I wanted to join a pokemon community because I don't have a lot of friends that still play pokemon except for my fiancee.  So I am here to hopefully make friends with people that share the common interest of playing pokemon games and also to hopefully find a few people to battle because I recently have been getting into competitive battles this gen.  I have to leave for work soon but if anyone that replies could share with me where I should go to find people to battle, maybe explain some of the rules around here, or where I would go to help people out (I like to breed and don't mind taking requests, I just don't breed for hidden powers as that is something I have a limited understanding of and lack the tools to do) I would greatly appreciate it.  Thanks in advance!

Well, damn, way to fill the text box xD
But really, that's all awesome ^^ So welcome to the forum! I've never really been too much into competitive, mostly focusing on spriting and other art related things, but I'd like to say I have some experience in the competitive scene. Unfortunately/Fortunately (if you're looking to battle gyms), I only have Ghost types set up to be mildly competitive, but I can be a semi-decent test for your teams. Anyway, can't wait to see you around here, and I wish you the best of luck in the competitive scene. I'll try to help you out the best I can ^^ Again, welcome.

I'd really appreciate any battle experience I can get outside of battle spot, I'll be fair and not construct a team to counter Ghosts (I ran into an all ghost team in battlespot one time and it was literally a use knock off to win sort of match, well it was a little more tense than that but you get the picture). I leave on the East coast of the U.S. and use EST, so if you want to set up a time where we can practice battles you can send me a pm, or maybe we will run into each other on the chat, who knows. Either way my friend code is 1521 3046 9580 so you and anyone reading this can add me if they'd like to.

Welcome to the forums. There is a battling and rate my team section where you can post requests to battle or get your team rated. I'm quite an experienced pokémon battler, if I do say so myself. I would like to battle you. Yria said the rest.
