Pillow Shading

Alright first things first you'll need to pick the pokemon sprite your using. The sprite we will be using is this kakuna sprite.
Step 1: The Pallet
So the first step is making the pallet. What you do is take ever color on the sprite and put it on the side one color on top of the other. Remember if a sprite has body parts that are different color you use a separate pallet on it. I like to put the pallets next to each other. However as kokuna only needs one pallet I will not be covering that part. So this is what the sprite should look like after adding the pallet to it's side.
Step 2: The Outline
Alright, so the second step is go around the outline and change each pixel of the outline to black.
Step 3: White Out
All right the next step is simple, use the paint bucket and get rid of all the color on the sprite but leave the black outline and the eyes. It should look like this after you've made it.
Step 4: The Color
So now that the sprite you have it black and has no color, let's add some color. So trace each line with the darkest color on the pallet. After that use the next dark to trace the last color you used. Keep doing that till your on the lightest color on the pallet. For that, simply use the paint bucket tool to fill in the remaining white space.
Step 5: Completion
Well now simply get rid of the pallet and your pillow shading sprite is complete!
Infernos

Alright just as in making pillow shadings and any other sprite your going to need to pick what pokemon sprite your going to use. I'll be using this pikachu sprite this time.
Step 1: The Pallet
Alright, for making infernos I like to use the normal inferno pallet but you can use a different pallet if you want. This is the inferno pallet.
Step 2: The Outline
Unlike the pillow shadings, instead of outlining the sprite in black we will be using the darkest red on the pallet to outline it. After that the sprite should look like this.
Step 3: White Out
Next up is taking all the color out of the sprite and changing is to white. Pretty simple right? It'll look like this when your down.
Step 4: The Color
Well now you simply trace the red outline with the next darkest color. Keep doing that till you get to the last color on the pallet. On that color simply use the fill bucket to fill in anything else that's still white.
Step 5: Completion
Alright, now simply remove the pallet and your down! You probably already noticed the similarities between this and pillow shading. Alright, this is what it looks like completed.
