Ah, Gym battles are done through Ambercrest on the main site, but here is a really good place to make some amazing friends.

Welcome to the forums btw, If you want to actually challenge a gym. You should go to the ambercrest chat. And see if there are gyms open. It would be best to just hang around first just to make friends or something. When you see a gym is open you could ask them for a battle. Simple as that.
