The NX/Switch revealed Empty The NX/Switch revealed

Post by Dragon Arbock Fri Oct 21, 2016 1:47 am

So, they officially displayed the NX, named the Switch earlier today.
Looks interesting, though from the footage hard to tell if it has any touch screen capabilities. Perhaps more telling the remaster/new installment of splatoon does not use the tablet, so perhaps it's not compatible with any sort of gamepad device.

I remember hearing that there will pokemon games developed for it, but whether this is a thing to replace the 3DS or not is unknown.

Well I hope by that they mean along the lines of Colosseum and XD because they were a step in the right direction for really good looking games and with the vast updates to hardware and software in general since then, it'd be nice to see them do something like that instead of mainstream pokemon games. I do feel like it wouldn't be proper pokemon if the main games weren't just handheld though. I don't know, I kinda prefer it like it is. But it depends what direction they want to go with it really.

They will be handheld though. It'll just also be a console.

I want to be excited for this thing but I've had such a bad time with nintendo in the past that I'm just waiting for the other shoe to drop. Plus I have 2 major concerns. One is, how long does the battery last? If it's any less than 8 hours I'll be really upset because my vita gets at least 8 and it definitely takes more resources to run than a 3DS. The other one is, as always, nintendo's adamant hatred of online friends once again gimping online gaming far beyond what literally everyone else does for no other reason than the old people belief that online friends aren't real friends. Most of my friends live in different states, most of them also don't own nintendo consoles. Any wonder why? But that is pretty much a given as long as miyamoto has his way.

At least I can have a handheld version of breath of the wild, I am incredibly optimistic about that at least, long as it has a decent battery life.

SSB, Pokemon, and Mario Kart are online-oriented so I fail to see where there's a lack of online. If you mean Mario, precise platforming with friends + online lag sounds like a nightmare.

As for battery life, no idea, but batteries do degrade overtime.

I mean co-op games in general, and we managed fine back on LBP2, during the time when sony's servers weren't crap. You also cannot possibly tell me that precise platforming with ping/lag issues is any worse than smash or splatoon because I have friends that say different. Razz At least ACNL had online...but my friends and I kept getting DC'd so it was pretty bad online. We could play PC and PS3 games just fine so it definitely wasn't our fault.

I heard from a friend who's usually right the battery life is mediocre at best. Not sure how I feel about that. Unless it gets some kind of portable charger like the 3DS has (as in doesn't need the console to charge up) then it'll be a serious problem.

There's also the downside that whoever takes the console with them takes the entire console, and someone who might want to play it at home doesn't get to. My mother and I both like animal crossing so this is a problem for us. Too bad the console portion can't be independant but I guess nintendo didn't want to basically give away 2 consoles in one. (Plus the price would be excessive.)

Anyway, current word on the street is it'll be around $300 at launch. It's just a rumor though but it certainly doesn't look too sophisticated, it looks about on-par with med-tier tablets so that sounds about right. If it really does have shoddy battery life then that would certainly stack up.

Honestly, I doubt it's entirely intended for portable gaming. Yeah, it's an option, but I for one see it as more an option of "man, I sure want to get some food, but I don't want to stop playing." It looks, personally, too large to make a decent On-The-Go portable gaming console. I doubt the battery life will be bad. I also doubt the battery life will be great. Knowing Nintendo, who wants to make cost effective, fun consoles for casual gaming, the battery life might run around 4 hours, potentially more or less, depending on how big the game being played is. It'll probably have a portable charger, too, since it is still a handheld, and Nintendo knows their handhelds pretty freakin' well.

Hoping for a portable charger but 4 hours? That's pathetic...my vita was $200 new and it still had 8 hours.

Also my tablet is 12.2 inches and I have no trouble using it as a portable device. The 3DS XL is also quite bulky. I prefer my handhelds to have large screens anyway, it's difficult for me to see them otherwise (original 3DS screen gave me headaches after a while) so I'm glad the new handheld will have a sizeable screen on it.

My mom would be happy, she could play ACNL finally. Her eyesight is worse than mine so she can't see handheld screens at all. D:

Plus Majora's Mask 3D on my TV. x3333

We would hope it supports 3DS, but I highly doubt that. Doesn't look like the cartridges are quite the same shape or thickness, and also, unless you can turn it vertically it's gonna be hard to fit both screens on that device. Not to mention touch isn't even confirmed yet.

It apparently has wii U compat, or at least games from the wii U are getting ports. That's pretty interesting.

Might be a possibility that 3DS games would use both the small handheld screen and the TV depending on how dependant the console is on the handheld being slotted into it.

I think you are focusing too much on the fact it has the ability to be a handheld. That is clearly not its main purpose. It's meant to be a TV console first and foremost. It's not going to be designed to be solely focused for handheld gameplay. The PS Vita was SOLELY a handheld. This isn't. Comparing them as if they are intended to be the same thing is clearly unfair.

there is an image I've seen, official from what I understand, that shows the portable screen hooked up to a DS type charger, so I'd say it's possible it'll be independently chargeable from the rest of the system. So do what you will with that information.

Well, backwards compatibility had been confirmed not the be a thing. So.. no 3DS games for us. And that Splatoon game they were showing off is either an enhanced port or a new installment.

If Nintendo isn't making any more handhelds then yeah it is. They merged their console and handheld divisions so the assumption is they're making both at once now.

Splatoon was the thing that bolstered interest in the wii U so it does make sense they'd have a new game as a launch title.

Lack of b/c in consoles these days though...is why my primary system has become the PC. Very Happy

I know this is an old topic (sorry I'm late to the party!) but I wanted to ask:

What are your opinions on the Eevee/Pikachu Switch being released in time for Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee? I've heard others compare the colours they chose for for Pikachu and Eevee as 'pee yellow and poo brown'!

Really can't decide if this is worth the price (if there was a Switch with both controllers being blue that would be awesome but no! Only black, red or blue and red!)!

Just wondering what everyone else thinks.

Love ya DragonArbock ^_^
